May/June 2016

The SCAAP board is very excited about the success of our Spring Symposium on April 9th . There was a great line up of speakers who all received excellent evaluations from the attendees. The SCAAP board would like to thank Jake Gutierrez, Resident Program Manager and Brenda Awe, Executive Director for hosting this event at their facility, Brookdale Magnolia in Corona. Also to the Brookdale Magnolia Choir for speaking and performing. The support of Brookdale Magnolia is greatly appreciated.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Dennis Hiebert for his wonderful service to SCAAP over many years. For personal reasons he has resigned from the board. We will miss seeing him and having his wise input at our monthly board meetings. We wish him well.

Laurie Kjar has graciously agreed to take over Dennis’s position as Director of Resources, Laurie was appointed at our May board meeting. Thank you Laurie. It will be wonderful to have you on the board.

I would like to thank Fred DeLorenzo for his job as Awards Chairman last year. Fred had hoped to continue this year but a job change has made this difficult. Aileen Gaddi has volunteered to take on this chairmanship and was appointed at the May board meeting.

One chairman position is open on the board, Nominations – Election.

Please think about running for office. Positions open for election in the fall are: President, Vice-President, Director of Resources, and Director of Professional Development. Let me know if you are interested in any of these positions so you can start shadowing the current officer soon.

Fall Conference preparations have started. It will be held at Holiday Inn & Suites Anaheim. Dates are October 20-22, 2016. The Hotel is within walking distance to Disneyland so you can bring your whole family. The Conference theme is “The Magic of Activities”. We will be sending out a call for papers for those who would like to present, soon. The call for papers is also available on our website. They will be due by June 30, 2016. Let us know if you have topics or speakers in mind.
